In 2020, new coronavirus has changed the world completely. Direct contact among people is shut down, and everyone has a sense of insecurity. Even in a chaotic situation, the artists have been searching to obtain a new direction of this new world.
The photographs are just a bits and pieces taken from a real world; Yet it is an art that allows us to see a world in new prospect with a help of photographer’s point of view.
In new project, “BEYOND”, taken by a photographer, Hiroshi Seo, these images may seem a graffiti or a computer graphics, although they are no illusion but a reflection of a real world, “the photographs.”
On the other hand, these reflected objects are the more than something; a shape “beyond” a shape, and a time and existence “beyond” them. Unexpectedly, this connects to our current state of mind, a sense of urgency to create “something” new to go beyond our common sense that we own now.
This exhibition is a limited show at a gallery, named “POP UP GALLERY.” Please divert your attention to the futuristic yet primitive “BEYOND” by Hiroshi Seo, created by an adaptation of a change of world existence at the beginning of this COVID-19 era, 2020.

■Photographer’s Comment

This series “BEYOND” has given me so many perceptions.
This scenery has provided a feeling of artistic proception of the universe to me, that I assume this may have seen by many master artists of surrealist and impressionist, Milo, Dali, Cézanne, Klee, Basquiat, and Picasso, etc.
This unlimited repetition, born in the chaos in between a coincidence and an inevitability, blending in as it repeats the sparkle and fine swell, makes us feel “the eternity,” “the past and the future,” and “the soul” by going beyond all boundaries.
For us living in the present, I believe the perception of the soul in the world of the chaos and the world after death means a lot, and there should be “learning,” “a player,” and the “peacefulness” in those worlds. At the same time, I feel it is a question for us about the necessity of perception a little more than now.
In the past year, there are so many things have happened on the earth, and a lot of things have changed dramatically. I have produced this series, BEYOND, in my prayer to the unachievable perception, that may allow us to see what we see and create only at this moment.

In recent years, a word “Sustainable” become sound familiar, and various industries are working on it. In this movement, thinking of what is achievable for the photographs to be “Sustainable”, what if the already existing images gets other layers to reborn with an analog method, with another images and materials, and handwritten drawings over the prints, etc.
This graphical series is to express the fun, a birth of new images by giving an artwork to the photographs, originally taken for 40ct & 525 by TAKEOKIKUCHI collection.
